London-based DREAMS online magazine is organising “Bhavisyavani”, a poetry competition, on Saturday 19th September 2015 at Shilpee Theatre, Battisputali, Kathmandu.

Collection of poems started with a press conference on 15th July 2015 with the announcement of the theme – “Let’s write tomorrow’s poems, today!”. A total of 200 poems were submitted by writers of under 30 years of age, from various parts of Nepal. A shortlist of 20 best submissions was announced on 28th August after a preliminary screening by the DREAMS editorial team joined by writer Somesh Verma and poet Sunita Junu.

Shortlisted poets Neal Bikram Shahi, Sabin Prabhat Gyawali, Aman Basnet, Laxman Shrestha, Nitya Pandey, Fuchchi Jamuna, Asmita Karki, Nabin Bhusal, Prajwal Adhikari, Manoj Bhandari, Raghu Pariyar, Nishma Adhikari, Ramnath Khanal, Sagar Bhandari, Garima Rana, Ayushma Adhikari, Narayani Khadka, Manisha Baral, Manoj Thapa and Anu Thapaliya will recite their poems at the event.

Final judgement for the first, second and third places winning NRs 50,000, NRs 25,000 and NRs 10,000 respectively, will be made by a panel of judges comprising of popular poets Biplov Pratik, Netra Atom, Seema Abhas and Sneh Sayami. The judging criteria will include creativity, poetic sense, relevance to theme, use of language and clarity.

The organiser- DREAMS magazine, their collaborators for this event, “Word Warriors” and “Nepal Literature Festival”, and supporters “Yuwa”, “Nepal Volunteering Program” and “Sparrow SMS” are all confident that “Bhavisyavani” poetry contest will help encourage the promising young talents in the field of Nepali literature.

Senior poet Bimal Nibha will grace the event as a chief guest, where members of the general public are expected to attend. Tickets can be booked for free here.
