DREAMS would like to congratulate Subina Shrestha on her documentary on Kamlaris “Nepal’s Slave Girls” winning the Women’s Empowerment Journalism Award 2014. The documentary was also shortlisted for the World’s Best Television and Film Category of New York Film Festival.

Who is Subina Shrestha?

Subina Shrestha is a journalist form Nepal, and is currently associated with Al-jazeera.

What did she do?

She recently made a documentary on Kamlari, female bonded labourers in Western Nepal. The film won the Broadcast Story of the Year at Women’s Empowerment Journalism Award 2014.

What is Women’s Empowerment Journalism Award?

The Women’s Empowerment Journalism Award honours media that brings forth issues related to women in South Asia. It is awarded in five fields, among which Broadcast Story is one.
